H.E. Ambassador Hassan Sobir
(Ambassador to the Benelux countries and the European Union 2019-2022)

Founder and Honorary Member

On 27 July 2025, Hassan Sobir was awarded the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin, one of the Maldives’ highest national honors. This recognition celebrated his nearly four decades of public service, especially in tourism, agriculture, fisheries, and diplomacy2.

Career highlights:

  • As Minister of Tourism (1998–2004), he launched the iconic “Sunny Side of Life” campaign

  • Led environmental efforts as Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, including planting one million trees

  • Served as Ambassador to Japan, Belgium, the UK, Singapore, and the European Union

  • First Chairman of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company

  • Played a key role in introducing the first computer to the Maldives during the 1985 census

🕊️ Hassan Sobir passed away on 28 July 2025, just one day after receiving the award. His daughter accepted the honor on his behalf during the 60th Independence Day ceremony
